GOOD NEWS FROM PIERCY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT:

In our efforts to have the Piercy Community Hall also serve as an Emergency Shelter in Mendocino County, we continue to source funding Grants. To date, this has allowed us to create a new kitchen, two bathrooms and exterior porches, steps and ADA ramp. In November 2023, the Community Foundation of Mendocino County awarded us funding to purchase a Kohler 14K generator. It is currently installed and operating at the Hall. Our next grant project will include a 2500-gallon water storage tank, an Ultra Violet water purifying system and exterior solar lighting system. Future projects will include additions to the kitchen area, interior storage and a shipping container for storing emergency supplies.

From a different source, we will be receiving funds to purchase five water catchment tanks (including roof rainwater collection systems). Two will be installed at the Hall and three at the Piercy Fire Department.

In August 2023, a $20,000 grant from California Fire Foundation provided funds specifically for firefighting equipment to replace old, outdated, and depleted stock. Approximately 100 items have been ordered and are currently being shipped.

FROM PIERCY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT: In June 2023, a $5,500 ($2,750/$2,750) matching Grant from Cal Fire provided funds that included purchases of personal communication equipment (radios and pagers) for our firefighters/first responders.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

There is always work needed to be done at the Community Hall and Fire Department. The current top three are as follows:

1. Preparing the Community Hall exterior for a new coat of paint.

2. Installation of Fire Lane Signs at Standley Creek undercrossing road.

3. Maintenance at the Piercy Fire Department Station
